Both the previously reported WHITE-WINGED SCOTER and RED-NECKED GREBE were
still on the Potomac River near Conn Island this morning. Also still present
were 13 BONAPARTE GULLS (8 now in breeding plumage). Other ducks included 30
RING-NECKED, 6 BUFFLEHEAD, 6 COMMON MERGANSER, WOOD DUCK, AND MALLARD.
GREAT BLUE HERONS were very active, flying in and out of trees on Conn Island.
I also observed my first for the year BLUE GRAY GNATCATCHERS. Warblers
included LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSHES and YELLOW-RUMPED. Resident birds were
singing
all along the river. The bluebells are blooming.
