I have received word today that Fairfax County is considering reducing the
hours that Riverbend Park will be open effective 1 July. The park staff would
possibly be let go, services discontinued, and the park would not be open until
9:00 AM. For anyone who has birded this area in either spring or fall
migration, this would be a big loss. Fairfax County residents can call Kate
Hanley, Chairperson of the Board of Supervisors at (703) 324-2321 to voice
their concerns.
I would rather pay a user fee to enter the park rather than see a delayed
opening or having park services discontinued.
