[va-bird] Re: Riverbend Park 4/26/05

I received several responses on my sighting of the RNG and possible HD.
No way I can make the Harlequin anything but a best guess. They went by
quick and we only had them in sight for a few seconds. My wife and I
agreed after looking in the book that this was a best guess made mostly
on the neck markings.

However, I was using 12x image stabilized binoculars, and my wife was
using 10x binoculars when we saw the RNG. We both saw what looked like
RNGs and 9 of them. There was also another couple there with 8x optics,
who saw them and agreed with us. Please consider that they were on the
other side of the river, which is very far away. We all had a very long
look at them, probably 15 - 20 minutes. Nothing we saw made us think
they were anything but RNGs.

This all happened on Wed 4/26. On Thur 4/27 I was back at Riverbend. In
the same location as I saw the RNGs, there were Wood Ducks. They were
no what we saw on Wed. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a picture of the
RNG while they were there. My lens isn't that long. If I had known it
was a rare thing, I would have tackled anyone with 'nocs on, and made
them look at it.

So, you're left with 4 people who all thought they saw RNG in good
light and bad light, far away, with 8x 10x, and 12x optics.
