Saturday from 4:30-5:30 I watched a Horned Grebe (just north of Conn's
Island ) diving repeatedly 15-30 feet from shore. We moved together
towards the parking lot of the Visitor's Center. Later, after walking
further north beyond the center, I returned to where I had originally
spotted her, and much to my delight, there she was busily diving. This
experience was the highlight of my day.
Other sightings in the area included rafts of ring-necked ducks, several
groupings of buffleheads, and one pied-billed grebe.
Happy birding ! Jan
