Bill and Katie James and I conducted a spring hawkwatch at Carvins Cove
reservoir, near Roanoke, in March and April of this year. We were able to get
in
135 hours of coverage and recorded 136 migrating raptors. Certainly nothing to
brag about but it was interesting nonetheless. Besides raptors, we observed
many migrating ducks, loons, grebes, cormorants, gulls, terns, and passerines.
On March 30 Bill and Katie watched 13 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS circle the lake
for about 30 minutes.
