Today, I visited the Stuart's Hill Tract at the Manassas National Battlefield Park where a restoration project and picnic area construction is underway. Ultimately, this project might provide some valuable wetlands, but the destruction of so much rich meadow and scrub in the middle of the breeding season seems totally unreasonable to me. The survey that many of us participated in at the battlefield in 2001-2002 found over 15 species of birds breeding in this area, including Grasshopper, Field, and Song Sparrows, Prairie Warblers, Bluebirds, Kestrels, Blue Grosbeaks, and Orchard Orioles.
