During a 7-8 AM bird watch at our headquarters in Reston today, we
observed a lot of breeding season activity; a mallard on a nest;
bluebirds feeding young; multiple rw blackbirds, both sexes, showing
lots of activity around our cattail patches; a song sparrow gathering
nesting material.
There remains at least one swamp sparrow in our landscape and it was
singing this morning.
A female purple finch was feeding on elm seeds.
We also had a single house wren, giving a partial song and appearing
briefly. House wrens seem sparse and perhaps a little late in appearing
in Virginia this spring.
