Birders,
I, too, saw the female Red-necked Phalarope most of the morning at Blandy
(especially since I locked my keys in the car and spent more time there than I
meant to.) It is a magical place of great beauty and the pond is a wonderful
spot to observe the various species of swallows close-up. Along the gravel
road, I had a pair of Bobwhites running along in front of the car as fast as
their little legs would carry them. Two female Wood Ducks appeared and
reappeared from the reeds along the lake, one with ducklings in tow. On the way
to Blandy near Middleberg, a female Ring-necked Pheasant strolled across Rt. 50
oblivious to vehicles swerving to avoid it. In my rear view mirror, I was
relieved to see it finally cross the road and disappear into the brush.
