My family and I visited the CBBT yesterday afternoon (Sunday).
Probably the most notable species were:
2 Harlequin Ducks
1 female Common Eider
3 Red-necked Grebes
8 A. Oystercatchers
Unfortunately, I cannot remember which island had each species. I wasn't
driving the car, and I lost all sense of direction. But, the grebes were
sitting in water, very close to the base of one of the jetties. There was
also a breeding-plumaged Horned Grebe sitting close to one of the islands
with some Red-breasted Mergansers. And, a breeding-plumaged Common Loon was
seen well. Several flocks of scaup, Black Scoters, and Surf Scoters (with a
few individual Oldsquaw) were also seen. The Harlequin Ducks were basically
by themselves, close to rocks along an island side. The eider was with
scoters off a jetty, and the oystercatchers flew onto a jetty while calling
a great deal. Gannets were well seen close to the islands.
