Cheryl Lyon emailed me some pictures this morning of what she
identified as a Red-necked Grebe. Over lunch I got down to the
lake and found two grebes sitting side by side. One was obviously
the "resident" Pied-billed Grebe and the other was about twice as
big. It had its bill under its wing but I eventually got good enough
looks at it to conclude that Cheryl had correctly identified this bird.
Before I left I also found a Horned Grebe on the lake giving me a
three-grebe day. I suppose I don't win any prizes for that but it was
a lot more interesting than many days at Silver Lake.
Incidentally there were eight migrating Ring-billed Gulls at the lake
as well. They are moving through here too.
