Laura,
Great to meet you too! After some additional errands, I came by
again and two pair of hooded mergansers plus some additional males were
present near the one coot. Some of the mixed ducks, which are green in very
erratic spots, caused me to call my son who is into genetics and biology at
GMU. He may drop by to see mixtures in action.... The young of these
ducks are huge. One is a fawn color. I had not seen him earlier. The
bufflehead was nowhere to be seen by 11:30 or so.
Evidently Logan's Roadhouse 'pond' is a lot more palatable than the
water behind the Comfort Suites off 234, behind Damon's, north of Logan's
on the opposite side. Only four stalward geese were interested in that
location.
Enjoy this sunny weekend, everyone!
Ellen ODonohue
