Arrived at Burke Lake looking for the grebe about 1:15pm Wednesday afternoon.
Found it quite quickly to the left of the pier, a good distance
across the lake. I stayed for about 20 minutes(it stayed in the
water to the left of the pier the whole time I was there) and eventually
it came quite a bit closer and I had some excellent looks due to the
clear sunny day. Definitely looks like a first winter bird, as it
looks like a stripe or two of the juvenile facial markings are still
visible, though fainter. Thanks to those who posted for helping me to a lifer!
