My husband and I ventured out today after the precipitation tapered off
for our traditional Christmas bird walk. At Mason Neck, there were many
of the usual suspects, along with an immature red-headed woodpecker,
which my husband spotted just off of the Bayview Trail. As you head
away from the shore and turn left onto the boardwalk through the marsh,
the woodpecker was foraging among the trees near the bluffs to the right
of the boardwalk (at about 3 p.m.).
Merry Christmas to all,
Sue
