Mary Floyd, Gene Keefe, and Mike Ready led a group of eleven observers at
Huntley Meadows Park this morning, August 18, 2003, from 0700 until 0845. It
was a very warm day with calm winds and a clear sunny sky. The morning was
distinguished by the observation of a Red-breasted Nuthatch.
The Red-winged Blackbirds have largely gone; presumably the ripening wild rice
on the Potomac River and the lure of farmer's fields in Loudon, Culpepper and
other Counties was too much to resist. Their return will be welcome.
