[va-bird] Red-breasted Nuthatch at Fort Smith Park, Arlington

VA Birders,

Betty Kilgore and I went to Fort C.F. Smith Park, Arlington, this morning
(Thursday, Dec. 22) to get some exercise, and to see what birds might be
there. We arrived there a little after 10:00 am, and were soon joined by
Donald
Sweig, who came to look for the Red-breasted Nuthatches. As we were walking
from the parking lot toward the main house, we found a mixed flock of birds
feeding in the evergreens along the service road. The flock included at least
1
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, a BROWN CREEPER, a GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, a
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, and several YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS. Later, Betty and
I found
a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET and saw at least 2 sapsuckers. We ended with a total
of 30 species for the morning!

Good birding,
Val
