Yesterday, April 25, Rexanne Bruno and I went over to the Stonewall section
of Appomattox County to check on the hawk's nest. The female is still
sitting quietly on the nest so it doesn't seem that the eggs have hatched yet.
We
first spotted the nest on April 8 so it seems that there should be chicks
soon.
In the same area, we saw several orchard orioles, the first of the
season for us.
Later we went into Campbell County and saw our first indigo bunting of
the season. There were also many yellowthroats, blue-grey gnatcatchers and
white throat sparrows but no other warblers were observed.
