[va-bird] Re: Recent Northern Shrike sightings?

Well I looked for the Northern Shrike off and on from about 2 to 5 pm Friday.
I drove back and forth from islands 3 & 4 across Fisherman Island to the scenic
overlook and beyond to the ESNWR but never saw the shrike. Although it was
difficult to scan all of the scrub while driving at 40 - 45 mph, I suspect that
the shrike was not visible because of the intermittent mist and rain all
afternoon.

I checked for the Eurasian Widgeon at ESNWR but only saw two pair of Amer
Widgeons along with gadwalls, black ducks and C geese. I scanned the gulls,
etc. on islands 3 & 4. There weren't many; the best one was a single (first
sighting this year) Laughing Gull in breeding plumage on #4. I also saw five
(4 female & 1 male) Harlequin Ducks, two song sparrows and two juncos on island
#4, and the usual gulls, purple sandpipers, gannets, red-breasted mergansers,
surf & black scoters (didn't see any white-winged), loons, pelicans,
cormorants, etc

Bob Ake saw the shrike Friday morning; has it been seen since? If so, I hope
to go back out to the CBBT this week to try again (too many holiday commitments
this weekend).

Thanks to several of you who responded to my original email with info on your
most recent sightings of the shrike.
