Stopped by the Terry Run Marshes again this AM at first light
and once again had at least 2 rails "grunting". I could coerce
no other calls from the birds. However, once again, the rails
grunted only in response to tape playback of KING RAIL kek-kek-kek
and grunts. I got no response to any playback of VA Rail calls or
grunts. I also had a SORA calling here.
Other birds included a small assortment of warblers including:
PROTHONOTARY,COMMON YELLOWTHROAT,NASHVILLE,BLACK-THROATED BLUE
BLACK-THROATED GREEN, LOUISIANA and NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH,YELLOW
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT,CERULEAN,and BLACKPOLL.
I did not relocate the sedge wren. Note that there is a more shallow
"grassier" marsh on the left side of the road here. However,this marsh
is difficult to see due to the trees and bushes lining the road.
One correction to previous directions, it is only about 1 mile
to the marshes after turning off of US 522.
