VA Birders,
This afternoon around 2:00 I was drving east on I-66 and noticed a
raptor soaring over the North Fork Wetlands on the north side of I-66.
Something about the wing shape made me look twice and I pulled over to
get a binocular view. It started kiting and I could easily see it was a
light morph RL Hawk. I got off 66 at Rt. 15 and headed back to the
wetlands parking at the gate along Thoroughfare Gap Road. There was a
Red-tailed Hawk soaring over the wetland and two Northern Harriers
coursing over it. Then I saw the RL Hawk again and got to watch it in
my scope for a while as it soared. Beautiful bird! This is a count
week bird for The Plains CBC so if anyone sees it again, please let me
or Todd Day know.
