Hello All,
I decided to go to Rivebend Park today at first light to try to track down the
reported
Connecticut Warbler that was posted yesterday.  The morning started off very
slowly,
where few migrants were observed.  I started near the river and saw only
Carolina
Wrens, chickadees, etc.  I then decided to head for the meadow, hoping that the
rising Sun would spur some activity.  I walked toward the far end of the meadow
(near Jeffery Road) where the Sun was hitting the trees.  I saw only a couple of
migrants, including a Common Yellowthroat, until a Red-shouldered Hawk started
yelping in a nearby tree, scaring most things away.

I noticed movement low in a nearby tree (maybe 15 feet away), and saw the face
of a
flycatcher with a cream-colored eyering, and a yellowish throat!  It moved a
little in the tree,
and I was able to see the rest of the body and noticed that the breast was
washed overall
with yellow, and that it had whitish wing bars.  I said to myself that it was
likely a very yellow
Acadian, and moved on to check out a first-year Magnolia Warbler in a nearby
tree.  Only
then did I hear a very sweet sounding chuwee coming from the direction of the
flycatcher!
It repeated this a few more times, in a way that sounded like it was saying in
a very hesitant,
timid manner that, "I am here.  See me?"  YELLOW-BELLIED!  I could not believe
it, as it is
a life bird for me.  I continued to observe it nervously flitting around the
trees and shrubs, until
it flew off in the direction of the opposite side of the meadow.  If anyone can
get to the Park
to confirm this sighting, I would appreciate it.  If it had not called out, I
probably
would have "downgraded" it to an Acadian assuming it was that.  When I got home
this afternoon, I played the tapes to be sure I heard the Yellow-bellied's
call, and I
believe strongly that it is.  At this point I am perhaps 90% sure of my ID.  I
am not sure
about the history of this bird at Riverbend, so if anybody can shed light on
that, I would
be appreciative.  Also, if anybody has any questions, feel free to e-mail me.

The complete list of birds observed follows.  And by the way, I never did find
the
Connecticut!

Good Birding,

Jay L. Keller
