This AM, Thurs, 9/12, I observed an adult plumaged Red-Headed Woodpecker
perched in a tree at the meadow in Riverbend Park (Great Falls, VA). I have
found this species there maybe 4 times out of the past 5 years, and always
only in September.
There were also warblers at Riverbend and in my yard today, the first day
this fall that I have noted any significant warbler movement in the Great
Falls area. Only seven species were observed -- Tennessee, Chestnut-sided,
Magnolia, Black-throated Green, Black-throated Blue, and Redstart -- but it
was a welcomed change.
