Greetings,
The sight of 22 Red-breasted Mergansers at the sewage treatment pond (in
Centreville) this afternoon brightened the dreary day for me. Love those
shaggy crests!
As I was leaving the area in my car, a pickup truck raced up behind me so I
pulled over. A man who works there asked me if I was shooting video and I
said no. I told him I was watching birds through a spotting scope. That
seemed to satisfy him. I don't know if he was just curious or was acting in
an official capacity, out of safety concerns? I've been going over there for
about three years and at least a dozen times since Sept. 11 and have never
been stopped until today.
