Hello all,
This morning's treat was a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak popping into our
backyard. Unfortunately, he did not stay very long, unlike the Indigo Bunting
who was here on the 28th.
Also, we visited Thompson WMA this morning. We don't know if it was our getting
there about an hour later than usual--10:15 a.m. or so at the Trillium Trail,
or what, but we mostly heard, rather than saw, the birds.
We did get good looks at Wood Thrushes--this must be a banner year for them at
Thompson, and American Redstarts.
We heard: an Ovenbird, maybe a Worm Eating warbler; heard a Kentucky Warbler
that was frustratingly close, but "buried" in the undergrowth just where you
turn and head up the Appalachian Trail; also, the same sort of frustrated
hearing, but not seeing, various Hooded Warblers and Scarlet Tanagers.
An earlier stop at the lake area was pretty much a bust. There were people
Turkey hunting near the trail up the mountain. We did hear Red and White-eyed
Vireos as well as an Indigo Bunting. We got good looks at Eastern Meadow Larks
and an Eastern Phoebe in the field to the north of the parking lot.
For you flower lovers--the Trilliums are in full bloom.
