VA BIRDers,
Near the Neabsco Creek Marina (next to the Potomac River) I spotted 3 Purple
Martins and 4 Barn Swallows mixed in with the 100+ Tree Swallows flying in
the area. Despite dilegent searching, I was unable to find a "Long" Tree
Swallow (Tachycineta bicolor longii). Perhaps it migrates exclusively in the
piedmont?
At the Mason Neck SP overlook in Fairfax Co, I spotted a lone Northern
Rough-winged Swallow. The bay held:
DC Cormorant 3
Am Wigeon 6
Com. Merganser 3
Red-breasted Merganser 101
Ruddy Duck ca. 1000
and the usual Osprey.
