The following report was given to me from Bill Opengari. "On May 30, while
on a canoe trip on the James River about a mile below Eagle Rock, I
observed a Prothonotary Warbler. This sighting was in the general area of
the first nesting record for Botetourt County, which I observed in 1973.
It was relatively common for a number of years thereafter from Eagle Rock
ot Springwood (Peak count 10, May 29, 1982, Kinzie, "Birds of Roanoke
Valley"). However, it has been noticeably absent on this section of the
James for about fifteen years, while occasional sightings still occur near
Buchanan, which is about 21 miles downstream."
