Greetings to all:
The male Prothonotary Warbler was located again on both Thursday and Friday at
the bridge over the Dan River from the train station to the trail that leads to
Dan Daniel Memorial Park. On both days the male was observe looking into
nesting holes.
Also located was a Great Egret up river from the bridge.
Yesterday evening on April 19, 2002; while at my wife's parents home I heard a
Wood Thrush and we stayed until it got dark so that I could listen for
Whip-poor-wills. I was not disappointed, one started calling from the woods
just to the left of the house about 20 yards from where I was standing.
Shirley turned around to look at me because she thought I was playing a tape.
I walked over with a small flashlight to where he was calling from and he flew
up and I was able to see him fly away. He returned in about 15 minutes to
start calling again.
