Birders..
We went up to The Cumberland Refuge this evening to see if the Prothonotaries
were still around and they were. We estimate that there are about 12
pairs..give or take. They flit around so fast it's hard to keep track of them.
Could it be possible that they are breeding? Anyone who is interested should
take a trip to New Kent County. We would be happy to meet you there and show
you where we are finding them. We're going back tomorrow morning to try and get
some pictures of a Bald Eagle that we missed this evening., and of course to
check out the warblers. I have been watching a particular tree that I know he
sits in (evidence on the ground underneath) Sure enough he was sitting there
when we started in, and I was so busy looking for Warblers, I missed him flying
just a few yards in front of me across the pond and gone.. We also saw Summer
Tanagers and a couple of mystery birds. I got some nice pictures of a Pileated
Woodpecker who didn't seem at bothered by my loud shutter noise. That thing
needs a muffler..lol

see the mystery bird. My husband says it's a molting Robin (which it probably
is)..
