Hello All,
A wildflower walk at Riverbend Park, Fairfax County Saturday afternoon included
wildflowers as well as a PROTHONOTARY WARBLER upriver from the Visitor Center
along with a NORTHERN PARULA; and BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS, and lots of
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS.
A Sunday morning visit to a nearby park/wetlands between Riverside Parkway and
Broad Run in Countryside included seeing GREATER YELLOWLEGS; SOLITARY
SANDPIPERS; GREEN HERONS (3); WILSON'S SNIPE (8); another bunch of
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS; and EASTERN MEADOWLARK (2) and far more TREE SWALLOWS
and EASTERN BLUEBIRDS than there were boxes for.
The latter area is in Loudon County. Just west of where Route 28 meets Route 7
turn right on George Washington Boulevard. Turn right at the intersection with
Riverside Parkway and take it to the end of the road. There is a parking lot
with easy access to the trail network for the park/wetlands area. (Thanks to
Andy Rabin for discovering this spot last year.)
And, finally, we had a male RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD in our backyard this
afternoon sipping nectar from the blossoms on our Blueberry bushes.
