Hello all,
This is in response to the Florida Nature Tours response to Todd Day's message
about ticks.
We wanted you all to know that we use Sawyer Permethrin Tick Repellent. This is
distributed by Sawyer Products, Safety Harbor, Florida 34695. You spray your
clothes with this product but not any bare skin. It is supposed to be effective
for up to two weeks.
We used it for a trip to Manassas Battlefield Park (noted for its tick
population) August 27 and did not have any ticks on us after we finished our
visit.
This particular brand is available from www.bigpockets.com. Also, it was found
at a nearby Target store in their camping department but doesn't seem to be an
item that is regularly stocked. Also, the person who gave us a can found
various suppliers by going to Google and typing in Permethrin.
We checked the Spring 2002 ABA catalog, and it lists a product called Duranon.
It is used to treat clothing too.
We hope this helps. Especially since this has been a particularly bad year for
ticks.

But what drove us back the car was the ticks. We had a

Todd & all,
There is a great product that I bought through ABA sales a few years ago
that worked extremely well when I was birding in a super tick infested area
in Jamaica. You spray your clothes with the stuff, not your skin, & it
lasts through several washings too.
