I stopped in at the landfill today around 11:30. As reported from the
weekend, there were thousands of Laughing Gulls there, as well as many
Ring-billed and a smaller number of Herring Gulls. I saw a single adult
Lesser Black-backed Gull. The Franklin's may well be there but you need
a lot of time and patience to sort through that many Laughing Gulls. I
only stayed for an hour. On the way to the viewing location I took a
wrong turn and ended up on the road that wraps around the dump. As I
was turning around I spotted the juvenile Golden Eagle perched in a tall
tree. I did not see the Raven or the Pipits previously reported. There
were two adult and one juvenile Bald Eagle visible from the viewing
location above the active landfilling.
