I decided to explore a couple of spots in Powhatan County this morning. I
started out at Powhatan WMA hoping to find some waterbirds for eBird's latest
project, the Early Winter Waterbird count. This project originated as the
Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory's Early Winter Waterbird count, this year it's
gone national and the date is November 17-20.
This was my first trip to Powhatan WMA. It was very wet underfoot after all
last Thursday's rain and many of the trails were impassable. I concentrated
on viewing the Bass and Sunfish Ponds. NO waterbirds but a good selection
of landbirds. There is some promising sparrow habitat here.
I then headed back to bird Fighting Creek Park which is a Powhatan County
park, actually it's my local park. This is woodland habitat with a small
creek
running through.
