Hello VAbirders,
Pity the Brown Thrasher, such a confused Brown Thrasher. There he was
bothering no one, hopping happily about the garden, pecking into the leaf
mulch in search of choice chubby critters to dine upon. Suddenly something
attacked him from above! He jumped sideways, and peered up. Before he had
a chance to focus let alone dodge a second attack, there was his assailant
at him again. And again! And again! He kept hopping in different
directions in an attempt to outmaneuver his assailant, but there was no escape!
The sound in his ears must have been deafening. There was no choice, he
must flee into dense cover for safety! He dove into the tangle of vines
and perennials and hid. Picture his Thrasher knees shaking violently and
knocking together as he cowered.
His mighty mite of an attacker backed off and watched and
waited. Satisfied the Thrasher was not going to show his face again, the
pistol with wings zipped back to the feeder and took another swig before
whizzing off for his next encounter.
Don't EVER mess with a hummer!
