Birders,
Dorothy Tella and I walked the trail from the Sighting-in Range parking lot at
Phelps WMA to the wetland and back today. We had 13 species of warblers
(NORTHERN PARULA, PRAIRIE,YELLOW-RUMPED,BLACK-THROATED BLUE,
HOODED,BLACK-AND-WHITE, AMERICAN REDSTART, OVENBIRD, BLACK-THROATED GREEN,
MAGNOLIA, KENTUCKY, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT), basically the
ones that Sue and Todd mentioned in their 5/5 message, but also including
BLACK-THROATED GREEN and 2 gorgeous MAGNOLIA WARBLER males in breeding plumage.
We missed the BLUE-WINGED, but we ran into Dave White, who said he had seen
one. It is a great place to see and hear YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS, and PRAIRIE
WARBLERS. They were everywhere.
Raptors over the wetlands included 2 immature BALD EAGLES, 2 RED-TAILED HAWKS,
and 1 COOPER'S HAWK.
