VA-Birders,
Thanks to the Knight's earlier report, I also was able to view the WILSON'S
PHALAROPE at Huntley Meadows late this afternoon. It was frenetically hunting
in the shallow water loosely associating with some DUNLIN just off the loop
trail in the middle of the marsh. Other highlights include a BLACK-BILLED
CUCKOO that flew across the marsh and a couple of ACADIAN FLYCATCHERS in the
woods. My list is below.
Also of note, while helping with a BBS survey at Dyke Marsh, Fairfax County
this morning, Larry Cartwright and I distinctly heard a very late WINTER WREN
singing about 100 yards north of the bend in Haul Road, as well as a late
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW seen foraging in the middle of the path.
Finally, I just returned from two weeks in the Chaco region of Paraguay in
South America, where I was able to add 69 life birds to my list and a total of
155 species. If anyone is interested in seeing my detailed Excel report with
species and locations, please e-mail me offline.
