[va-bird] Peregrines

I read somewhere recently (Smithsonian or Audubon, I think) that one of the
greatest causes of mortality for Peregrine chicks is drowning while
attempting to learn how to fly from a nest on a bridge trestle. I know folks
track Peregrine nesting activity (like VAFALCONS), but has anyone attempted
to coordinate canoe/kayak volunteers around these bridge nests during prime
fledging times... it must be only a couple of days, and certainly for the
railroad trestle nest on the Potomac, there are tons of recreational
paddlers all around there...

From my own experience canoeing on the Potomac, I know you can pull a
thrashing bird out of the water pretty quickly (in my case, just a pigeon!).
Any thoughts out there?
