My six photos of the hatch year Peregrine Falcon seen by
Rich Rieger and me in the Belle Haven picnic area at Dyke
Marsh yesterday can be seen at
http://photos.yahoo.com/paulasulli/ (Second row on the
left.)
The photos are not sharp since I had to crank up my digital
camera to its full power, using the optical plus digital
zoom, but good enough to document the bird's ID. Thanks to
Rich for having his scope handy for me to use for the two
digiscoped shots, and to Kurt Gaskill for confirming the ID.
It was thrilling to see the bird and more so because it was
so unexpected. We must be contrarians because we tried to
make it into something ordinary, but we couldn't make those
less exciting IDs stick. Like Rich, I am most interested to
find out if we can learn anything about the bird's origins
or travels from the presence of the two bands.
