Paula Sullivan and I went to the King Street side of Huntley Meadows (Fairfax
County) today. The best bird of the day was a Palm Warbler (nearly in
alternate plumage) in the little meadow along the Pond Trail. (Kurt, what is
the early date for this species?) We also had a singing Pine Warbler at the
same location and a second singing Pine Warbler in the North Marsh. Four
Yellow-rumps made it a three warbler species day.
Three pair of Eastern Phoebes were observed, with at least one bird at the
maintenance building gathering nesting material. We also tallied 2 Hermit
Thrushes. Song Sparrow migration must be at the peak. We counted 82 of these
guys!
