An OSPREY was seen in Winter Harbor, Mathews County today about 4:30 p.m. It
was on a piling out from Site CMT04 on the Virginia Coastal Trail (Winter
Harbor Landing). A pair of COMMON GOLDENEYE were swimming and diving around
the piling. At least ten RED-THROATED LOON were off Bethel Beach, Site CMT04.
A large number of DUNLIN, about 25 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, an AMERICAN
OYSTERCATCHER, and two BALD EAGLES were seen at Site CMT06, Horn Harbor
Landing. At Site CMT08, New Point, a large group of TUNDRA SWAN was feeding on
the edge of Mobjack Bay in the company of two MUTE SWAN. Between Haven Beach
and New Point, we saw two small groups of BRANT, several groups of SURF SCOTER,
a few GANNET, COMMON LOON, BEFFLEHEAD, RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, and HORNED
GREBE. Between water sites, we had the usual land birds including two
RED-TAILED HAWKS and two AMERICAN KESTRELS.
