[va-bird] Opal Pond Pecs, 23 July 2002

Hola,

I stopped by the puddle in Opal behind the East Coast gas station tonight to
see if anything was around. Gone were the two Solitary Sandpipers from ten
days or so ago, however when I stepped out of my car, five shorebirds flew
into the pond, over my head. Pectoral Sandpipers they were. I scoped them
on the flats to be sure. Within about a minute, they took off. About five
minutes later, four of them came back. Or so I thought, as a few minutes
after that, five returned, sending the other four skyward. Each group only
had one adult, the rest were fresh juvs. They played the game of alternating
on the mud for the entire time I was there, however they aside from once,
they usually left before their replacements would arrive.

Cheers...

Todd
