This morning, about 9:30 am, I observed an Olive-sided Flycatcher at Blandy
Farm (Clarke County) in the area around the old burn piles about a 1/2 mile
south of the main complex. This area is about a 1/2 mile west of the area
described by Dr. Carr in his email yesterday. I got to watch it for several
minutes before I walked over to Lake Arnold (about a 1/4 mile east & north of
the old burn piles) as it perched high in a tree on some dead limbs.
After I walked back from Lake Arnold (where there were Northern Rough-Winged
Swallows, at least one Cliff Swallow, Tree Swallows Barn Swallows and a flock
of about 25 Cedar Waxwings) there were two Cedar Waxwings sitting below the
Olive-Sided Flycatcher giving an opportunity to compare two birds very similar
in size but otherwise very different. There were also Phoebes and Pewees in
the area.
