[va-bird] Okay, no puns this time: Stop the verbal bloodlust!

My dear fellow birders, BOTH those of you who hunt and those of you who
don't,
Peace begins at home. Verbal savagery hurts too. Obviously, it doesn't
directly result in death. But what I see at this point is (a) wildly
off-topic for a birding list, and (b), as I said before, unlikely to
change the minds of either side. As talkative as I am (I'm secretly not an
English professor at all, but a five-foot corvid), I still don't think I
could ever convince a hunter to stop hunting, especially by yelling at
the person.
Tomorrow is a holiday that partly involves stuffing ourself silly, on bird
or tofurkey as we choose, and partly involves being thankful for things. I
am thankful that this list exists, so people can post sightings and
discuss, you know, BIRDS. I am thankful for the birds themselves, and for
adding to my life list this year, and for getting to spend time with the
NVBC at Sky Meadows.
So could we please get back to birds? I'm not a hunter myself, but nobody
who does happen to hunt is going to get turned away from my tofurkey-laden
table.
Fiat pax,
Gwyn McVay
