Eleven members of the Northern Virginia Bird Club joined Larry Meade and myself
at Occoquan Bay NWR this morning, and saw a number of good birds. Highlights
were 3 eastern meadowlarks around the parking lot as we assembled, a tree
sparrow at the intersection of Bayview Rd. and Easy Rd. (one of 9 sparrow
species), an eastern phoebe in the marsh along Charlie Rd., 4 fox sparrows just
past the intersection of Charlie Rd. and Bravo Rd., a male common yellowthroat
near the intersection of Charlie Rd. and Delta Rd., 2 female common goldeneyes
off of Taylor Pt., 3 canvasback along Deephole Pt. Rd., and 4 Bonaparte's gulls
floating in Occoquan Bay. For those interested, here is the complete list:
