VA BIRDers,
Larry Cartwright, John Drummond, Kim Peacock and myself birded Occ. Bay NWR
this morning. Highlights were few: King Rail, Chipping Sparrow and Rusty
Blackbirds were near the top of the list. Blue skies, warm temperatures and
few (read: none) out of place species. After we broke up just after noon, I
went to the marina overlooking the mouth of the Occoquan River which has some
SAV still. Highlight here was an Osprey - no ducks other than Mallards; also a
couple hundred Canada Geese. In addition, a few Pied-billed Grebes, the four
typical gulls and 9 Forster's Terns.
The tally for OBNWR follows.
