I agree with Paula, but it is not this list...

The NWRs are careful about mentioning the deer hunt [in those words] because
of a history of having the PETA folks out there blocking the hunters cars.
I have witnessed that and it is not pretty.  So...we get these carefully
crafted "resource Management activities" words, that we all know mean
Hunting at this time of the year.   It is a carefully "managed" hunt and
does cull the herd a bit.  It is done by lottery with only certain places
that the hunters are allowed to go.  It is kept very quiet in the general
public.

It really is needed, and I was very skeptical myself until I listened to the
reasons for the hunts as outlined by the Managers.  That was way back in the
late 80's and I have been a supporter ever since.  Back then there were
piebald and very small deer [no bigger than dogs!] because of lack of food
for the numbers of deer present.   Since then the deer have been in better
shape and that is probably because of the managed hunt.

On the subject of NWR closings I thought I would pass on that Mason

be closed Nov. 18 and 19 and Dec. 10 for resource management
activities.

I am assuming that "resource management activities" at Mason Neck means
a deer hunt. The reason given for the closings on the three days at
Occoquan Bay NWR, according to the signs posted on the bathroom doors
at the parking lot,  is a deer hunt. I hope merely saying "deer hunt"
is not forbidden on this list.
