Hello Everyone,
Following Paula Sullivan's visit to Occoquan Bay NWR, I wanted to see what I
could find. It was my first visit there, and I am impressed with its diversity
of habitat and therefore avifauna. Highlights today were 8 Tree Swallows
(seems late), 3 White-crowned Sparrows (2 adults and 1 juv), and a Caspian Tern
fighting the wind. He wasn't the only one fighting the wind, as it was a cold
and blustery start, especially near the Bay, which caused the passerines to lay
low for a while. Also blowing by were flocks of DC Cormorants, Ring-billed and
Laughing Gulls. Inland on Easy Road and Charlie Road it was a bit better,
noting several species of sparrows. I started at 7 a.m. and finished before
10:30. The complete list follows:
Take Care,
Jay
