[va-bird] Occoneechee State Park, Clarksville (Mecklenburg County)

I've never seen a post about this state park, located near the NC border just
outside of Clarksville and about 30 minutes from South Hill. My husband and I
birded there today on our way home from a visit with relatives in NC.

We saw/heard several species that have been mentioned in recent posts from
other parts of the state. It was a GREAT morning! Low on warblers but high on
other favorites. Highlights:
Scarlet Tanager - saw 1 male, heard several
Summer Tanager - saw 2 male, heard several
Baltimore Oriole - 1 male
Orchard Oriole - 2 male
Blue Grosbeak - 1 male
Yellow-throated Vireo - 3
Red-eyed Vireo - 4
Eastern Bluebird - 15
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - 12
Yellow-rump Warbler - 8
White-breasted Nuthatch - 2
Gray Catbird - 1

These were heard but not seen:
Ovenbird - 10+
Wood Thrush - 2

For those who may be familiar with the park, the best birding was in the back,
beyond the Visitor's Center, and in the Terraced Gardens area.
