[va-bird] Northern Virginia Bird Club at Sky Meadows, Sep. 23, '06

Virginia Birders,

Overcast skies made birding a bit difficult at Sky Meadows State Park in Fauquier Co, but the light rain held off until the end of the morning. Ten members of the NVBC found many RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS stashing acorns and generally making themselves conspicuous. A kettle of about 20 BROADWING HAWKS followed by smaller numbers gave everyone good overhead views. Other highlights were 4 COMMON RAVENS seen well with scopes while perched in a tree and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW that made a brief appearance in the meadow. No Loggerhead Shrikes were found.

Thanks to Ray Smith for co-leading.
