[va-bird] Northern Virginia Bird Club Meeting June 23

From the Northern Virginia Bird Club:

Come join us on Thursday evening, June 23rd, and let member, Jim Leupold, warm
you with a tour of some of the birding "hot spots" in North America.
Fortunately, his schedule has permitted him to present his program in June
after Mother Nature forced a cancellation of our February meeting. He will
bring selected slides from his collection of the 700 species of birds he has
photographed over the years. They will represent a cross-section of the birds
of North America, from Grebes to Finches. The photos will be of birds, some
rare birds, some interesting birds and many good photos of just birds, not
places. Jim will, however, discuss many of these interesting places, where the
photos were taken, in the context of the photo itself, and what it was like
birding there as well as photographing there.

There is a real challenge, and art, to photographing birds, and Jim will talk
to us about the difference of birding with binoculars and birding with a
camera. Jim classifies himself as a photo-lister. He has switched to digital
photography in the last two years and up until now has done his photography in
North America. Recently, he has branched out globally, photographing birds in
Central and South America and has plans for other continents in the works for
this year.

Early Bird Refreshments are at 7:30. The meetings start at 8:00 p.m., but come
early for refreshments and conversation with old and new friends. There will be
a drawing for a door prize, maybe even more than one! You have to be there to
win, so come join us!

Where?: Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 8922 Little River Turnpike, Fairfax, at the
intersection of Rte. 236 (Little River Turnpike) and Guinea Road, about 1.8
miles west of the Beltway. From the Beltway (Rte. 495), going west along Rte.
236, turn right at the fifth traffic light (opposite Guinea Rd.); then turn
immediately left onto the service road. Go past the fire station, and turn
right at the second driveway into the church parking lot. Park behind the
church.

Everyone is welcome.
