The next quarterly meeting of the Northern Virginia Bird Club is at 8:00 p.m.
on Thursday, November 18. Everyone is welcome.
NVBC Member Barbara Stewart will introduce us to "Arctic Beauty" as she takes
us on a trip through the Arctic NWR in Alaska as she found it in 1990.The
Arctic National Wildlife Refuge has been called the nation's last frontier. It
is a place of immense beauty, rugged mountains, braided streams, bountiful
wildlife and gorgeous wildflowers.
Come join us to meet Barbara who will take us on a visit to the Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge where, in 1990, she spent two week rafting on the Kongakut
River and backpacking the final 25 miles to the Arctic Ocean at Demarcation
Bay. She claims it was the experience of a lifetime and that giving this
program gives her the pleasure of reliving it. There were hardships, to be
sure, but those fade in the memory. To prove it, Barbara has visited Alaska
eight times in the past 15 years.
Barbara Stewart is a photographer, a botanical illustrator and a free-lance
florist who lectures on native plants. She says she does the botany to pay for
her birding trips!
Early Bird Refreshments are at 7:30. The meetings start at 8:00 p.m., but come
early for refreshments and conversation with old and new friends. There will be
a drawing for a door prize, maybe even more than one! You have to be there to
win, so come join us!
