I believe Northern Shovelers shouldn't be here at this time of year?!?
None the less, this morning (26 Jan 03) saw two male and one female
Northern Shoveler at Veterans Park, Woodbridge, Prince William County.
They were in the unfrozen part of the pond closest to the skate
boarding area parking lot and were accompanied by six mallards. Perhaps
they high-tailed it from down south since there has been more snow down
there recently. They were there when I arrived in the morning and when
I left at 11:00am. Veterans' Park is off Hwy 1 and at the termination
of Featherstone Road.
Also saw:
Hooded Merganser - only 1
Pileated Woodpecker -1
Red-bellied Woodpecker -3
Carolina Wren - 1
GB Herons - 3
White throated Sparows (both tan & white morphs)- 12
Song Sparrows -4
Fish and American Crows 3 & 7
And a couple of billion (didn't bother counting)
Cardinals
Carolina Chickadees
Tufted Titmouse
Mallard
and of Course Canada Goose
